The Music of Design

One of my favorite quotes of all time is by Frank Lloyd Wright: "When I see architecture that moves me, I hear music in my inner ear." I feel the same way about good design in anything - interfaces, products, paintings, etc. There is something so magical and euphoric about things that are beautifully designed - it's almost as if they sing.

Do you feel the same way? Do you also hear music when you take in beautiful designs? Spend some time wandering through art galleries, sculpture parks, or flipping through design magazines. Notice how you feel when observe incredible works of art. Pay attention to your feelings and reactions. Then, when you return to your designs, consider how you can work to illicit the same response in yourself and others. How can you harmonize your product? How can you use more dynamics in your interface?

Shakespeare once said that music is the food of love. So, design like you're hungry.

XOUX.
